What is postalz ?

Postalz is an online service that lets you communicate with friends and family using postcards. It is similar to email, but better suited for occasions when just text is just not good enough. On Postalz, you can create postcards with text, art, photo and video and exchange them privately, just like you would do with email.

Why use postalz ?

Postalz can communicate the special moments in your life, in a very special way. Email with photo attachments, or web photo albums do not tell your story, as well as postcards do. Whatever the occasion: a vacation to the bahamas, sharing your first date with a girlfriend, seeking a recipe from mom, or fretting on a shopping dilemma... you will find that every moment can be better expressed on a postcard.

Postalz makes creating and sending/receiving postcards easy for everyone. Experience it.

How do I use it?

It is super easy. You compose a postcard just like you would compose an email, and then you send it to your friends. Every postcard is sent out as a 4x6 sized card. People can not only read the card, but comment on it using ‘spots'. Spots is a totally cool feature, where someone plants a kiss on your lips or packs a punch, to express their feelings anywhere they like ON your postcard. You can also edit a postcard you get, and re-compose a reply (just like we do on an email), by adding/replacing pictures, video, art or text.

Even if an unwanted user sends you a postcard, by adding you as a contact, your privacy is never compromised as your email ID is never made visible. Only postalz postmaster is responsible for postcard distribution to individual mail boxes.

27. Carry your postbox to your blog

Postalz supports a postbox widget which notifies you of all new postcards received and all new spots received on your postcards. No need to come and check postalz. We will let you know when someone is connecting with you.

28. Blog your postcard

If you want to flaunt your creations or postcards you received, on your blog, space, page whatever, use the embed code of postcard (found below the card) and insert it wherever you wish. The postcard is now dynamically linked to postalz, and shows up after you refresh your page. It also updates you about the latest spots on your postcards, as they arrive.

29. Putting text on top of pictures – how do I do it?

Click on your text box, after you have written and dropped a textbox. Yellow drag handles show up on all four corners. Click on any one and resize the box – or grab the box and move it wherever you want. By default a text box will appear on top of a picture, and make sure the color stands out in contrast to be visible.

30. Pictures lot of time to upload – how do I speed up?

There is no magic to reduce upload times. It depends on speed of your network. What works like a charm is exporting of your raw images, using tools such as goggle’s Picasa (or dozes of other utilities). Use an export option of 600 pixels and 80% compression to generate a fairly small sized image file that can upload much faster.

31. Want to use a picture as postcard background – but full size image upload option is not big enough.

Load a picture as a background. Pick the stretch option so picture covers the entire postcard. Postalz will automatically crop and resize the photo to fit the canvas. An advantage of doing this is that you can easily add anything on top of this background i.e. more images, art or video to create a gorgeous picture postcard.

32. Images get distorted when stretched – how do I avoid that?

Postalz allows free image resizing, and you have to be careful when you manually try resizing a picture after dropping the same on your card. We advise you pick one of three size options when uploading the picture. Use resizing for minor corrections only.

33. Want to put my own video on a postcard – not sure how to go about it.

No need to upload a video on Postalz and there is no support for that either. Upload your video to any of the popular video sharing sites such as You Tube, and embed them in your postcard, using the embed code.

34. How do I generate handwritten text?

Postalz supports amazing choice of handwritten text, in banners only. We do not allow hand-written text in large text boxes (yet). However you can create cool looking text anywhere on the web, and upload as image.

35. How do I bring an image from the back to the front, or reverse?

Postalz does not support moving images back or forward(as yet). What you drop last stays on top – so simply pick the order in which you add your images (if adding more than 1)

Tips and tricks

Top 10 Tips for cool postcards

  1. For a dramatic impact, add picture as postcard background. Then add text in contrast color or artwork on it. Do not overload your postcard with many photos; the best postcards have a single photo, at most 2.
  2. To make someone feel special, frame his/her picture
  3. Do not use a lot of text. Postcards are meant to be enjoyed visually, while they are read.
  4. Don’t stuff your postcard with clip-arts and animations; use them sparingly to accentuate your message
  5. Tilting pictures adds a great effect – photos look best when tilted a tad bit, not a lot. Try and avoid resizing after tilting your pictures.
  6. Scribble text or animated art on your video. If contrast colors are picked, the videos appear really cool with text floating on it.
  7. Black background is safe and beautiful and works with most photos. However feel free to use your choice of colors or tiles backgrounds, if you are feeling very creative.
  8. Write in different font sizes within a single text box – there is no reason for one text box to have only one size of font.
  9. Try cropping your pictures, using postalz stencils (cutouts) to give a cool look. You can also try cropping them to a size you want, before you upload, giving them a vertical portrait feel or panoramic spread
  10. Add call-out boxes or sticky pads, to get some attention. They look great when you want to create funny postcards, that bring a smile.
